On October 10th, 2023, a significant day marked the first death anniversary of Percy Jebamalar, the inspirational figure behind the Percy Jebamalar Legacy Foundation. We took a monumental step forward in extending the boundaries of palliative care awareness by conducting a Volunteer Training Session at Keelapavoor, a picturesque village nestled in Alangulam taluk of Tenkasi district.
The event was not just another milestone for us but also a humble tribute to Percy Jebamalar, whose profound impact in the community inspired the formation of our organization. Her legacy is what drives us to extend the reach of palliative care in Tenkasi and surrounding areas, making essential healthcare services accessible to all.
The gathering comprised over 20 committed members from diverse backgrounds who showed a keen interest in serving the community. The agenda was comprehensive, touching upon the critical aspects of palliative care and how volunteers can contribute meaningfully to the cause.
The session was inaugurated by Mr. Abilash Praveen, the Founder of the Percy Jebamalar Legacy Foundation. Abilash set the context by talking extensively about the importance of palliative care. He highlighted how volunteers can be the change-makers in improving the quality of life for people facing severe health-related suffering.
Mr. S. Lalit, the Regional Coordinator – South for Pallium India, delved deeper into the responsibilities and roles volunteers play in palliative care settings. His insightful talk gave a comprehensive overview, arming the volunteers with knowledge and expectations, thereby preparing them to serve better.
The event also served as a preparatory ground for an upcoming medical camp. Mr. Jaba, the Managing Trustee of Vidiyal Medical Mission, gave hands-on training to the participants for the medical camp scheduled to take place on October 13th, 2023, at SEEDS Palliative Care in Keelapavoor. His guidance was instrumental in equipping the volunteers for the forthcoming event.
As we advance in our journey, we invite more compassionate individuals to join our mission. It’s heartwarming to witness how a small village like Keelapavoor is becoming a beacon of hope and awareness in palliative care, thanks to the collective efforts of our partners and volunteers.
