Palliative care is an approach aimed at enhancing the quality of life for patients suffering from life-limiting illnesses and their families. At SEEDS Palliative Care, an initiative by the Percy Jebamalar Legacy Foundation, we’re committed to making this essential service accessible to everyone. On October 12, 2023, we took another significant step toward fulfilling this mission by organizing a free medical camp in Keelapavoor.
This special event was not a solo endeavor. We partnered with Pro Vision Eye and Retina Care Center, Tenkasi, and Pallium India, Trivandrum, to offer comprehensive care and consultation. Collaboration is key when it comes to healthcare, and we couldn’t have asked for better allies in this mission.
The event was specifically tailored to cater to cancer patients, a group that often requires an integrated approach to manage both the disease and its symptoms. Dr. Indhuja M. V, a renowned Medical Oncologist, was on-site to provide consultations and guide treatment plans for these patients.
But medical consultation was just one facet of this camp. Awareness about palliative care is equally important. Trained counsellors from SEEDS Palliative Care took the initiative to educate all the patients and their caregivers. Information, after all, is the first step towards empowerment.
We were also grateful for the support of our volunteers, many of whom were trained in Keelapavoor. These dedicated individuals ensured that the camp ran smoothly, allowing us to reach as many patients as possible.
The camp was an eye-opener for many and a relief for all. We hope to continue this initiative and take further steps to make palliative care a standard part of healthcare in Tenkasi. Because everyone deserves to live their final days with dignity and minimal discomfort.
